BPSU implements intellectual property and technology business management project

Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) has launched a two-year project that aims to enhance intellectual property protection and management particularly in cashew technology.

The project, “Enhancement of Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management in Bataan through the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement Program in Central Luzon (RAISE)” is funded by Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).

Project members are BPSU Innovation and Technology Service Office (ITSO) Manager and Project Leader Dr. Eduardo Tinao, Andrea De Jesus, Dr. Leslie Jorge-Acain, Cherrilyn Ventura, Engr. Dan William C. Martinez, Maricel Javier, and Patricia Kyle E. Navarro.

The objectives of the project are 1) Improve the existing operations of the BPSU IP-TBM through the RAISE Program; 2) Discover the emerging technological trends in cashew and recommend priority R & D programs through patent mining reports; 3) Enhance and harmonize the IP Policy and Technology Transfer Protocol through synchronized IP Management and technology transfer activities of BPSU through IP-TBM Office; 4) Strengthen linkages with industry and community stakeholders for efficient and effective IP management and technology transfer; and 5) Support the development of the IP-TBM real-time monitoring system.

The project has total funding of P3,354,648.00 with P2,480,648.00 coming from PCAARRD and the BPSU counterpart amounting to P874,000.00. The project runs from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2025. “The project strengthens the capacities of IP-TBM to enhance its commercialization activities”, pointed out Tinao. “We aim for improvement of research and development through IP creation, utilization, and commercialization”, he said.

BPSU is among the first institutions that responded to the invitation of PCAARRD on the implementation of the project, “Enhancing and Operationalizing IP Management and Business Development Office in Consortia Member Agencies” in 2017 and commenced in 2019 and then followed by project “IP-TBM Phase 2: Patent Mining for Mango Through Strengthened IP-BTM Offices” implemented in 2021 -2022. The undergoing BPSU IP-TBM project is Phase 3.
